Danish hotel and restaurant Falsled Kro is one of those idyllic places where the busy, hectic world seems to have stopped spinning. Located in the small town of Millinge, on the Danish island of Fyn, the birthplace of the author of children's stories, Hans Christian Andersen, the place seems to have magically stepped out of the pages of a storybook. Staff are warm and attentive, the interiors bright, lively and inviting. The atmosphere oozes tranquility: there’s nothing to distract your attention – or senses – from the creations of Per Hallundbaek, one of the Europe’s great chefs and the undisputed king of Danish cuisine.
Per takes his inspiration from the seafaring tradition of the North Sea and many of the dishes are based on salmon, which is smoked in the restaurant in the time-honored way, and caviar.
Try the delicious smoked salmon with iced aquavit, the North Sea lobster with mango chutney, soy and herb salad or poached eggs with caviar. The wine list is surprising with both local and European wines carefully chosen to match the seafood dishes
The perfect spot for exquisite food and a romantic, fairytale getaway.
