What is goji?
Goji is the fruit of the goji tree (Lycium barbarum) from the Himalayas, known and used in China and Tibet for thousands of years. It is the most powerful antioxidant that is known to man.
What are the benefits?
It is one of the most powerful adaptogens that exist. According to some nutritionists, goji can prolong life and boost the body's natural energy, especially in cases of illness. It strengthens the immune system, increases the libido (it raises testosterone levels in the blood) and helps balance blood pressure, cholesterol, sugar – in the case of diabetes – and cures insomnia. Goji also strengthens the heart, actively prevents cancer, improves memory and elevates mood. And it helps combat fatigue. In short, it boosts health and vitality, youth and energy.
It is rich in zinc and selenium and has only one contraindication: it interferes with clotting medicines.
Where to buy?
Dried berries can usually be found in health food stores. The Linwoods brand sells ground goji berries, which you can add to muesli and other breakfasts. In the United States it’s sold as a fresh juice, albeit at prohibitive prices, through a pyramid-selling scheme.
How to consume goji?
Ideally the berries should be rehydrated, such as by steam cooking for a few minutes.
They can be eaten as they are or used in dishes such as salads, muesli, muffins, stir-fries, yogurt ... They are often diluted with other juices such as grape, available at health food stores
How many can you take a day?
20-40 berries a day should be enough for the health benefits described.
How do you store them?
Like other dried fruit. Ground goji may be frozen.
