I always say that under the sea is a green forest that is so full of nutrients.
Algae, in my opinion, are the food of the future. Science has shed light on the importance of these plants in the sea. In fact their benefits have already been proven. We need to realize that seaweed is not just green stuff on the bottom of the sea or on the rocks.
Indeed, the food industry has long been using algae for many years to give consistency and stabilize many products that we consume. They are also used in making dyes, paints and plastics.
Thanks to sushi, we know and consume nori seaweed, but there are also many other varieties on the market. Apart from whole strips of Nori one can also purchase it in ground form. Other algae’s are: Wakame, Kombu, Agar Agar, Sea Spaghetti, Dulse, Irish Moss, Hijiki, Arame, Cochayuyo, spirulina, chlorella and many more. Each type of alga has multiple nutritional minerals such as calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium also trace elements (iodine, silicon, zinc, manganese, copper, selenium ...) they also have high value biological proteins that complement proteins from other foods, since algae contain all the essential amino acids and 9 of the non-essential. Algae also provide many vitamins such as A and C.As it is fibrous so it facilitates intestinal transit. It also helps strengthen bones, hair and nails. And last but not least, well nourished, algae stimulate metabolism and circulation, helping to control weight and activating our defenses. In short, if out diet includes algae it will help maintain out health.
